Clean Forex Historical Data on ChartLabs: Source, Cleaning, and Depth
ChartLabs historical data comes from Dukascopy, at tick level where tick data exists, cleaned to remove anomalies and built into 1-minute candles. Here is what that means in practice and how far back it reaches.
Where the data comes from
We source from Dukascopy, at tick level wherever tick data is available for the instrument.
Why cleaning matters
Raw tick data from any source contains anomalies. Price spikes during thin liquidity. Bad ticks that never represented a tradeable market. Artifacts of the feed rather than of the market itself.
Those anomalies matter more in backtesting than almost anywhere else, because a spike that nobody could have traded will still trigger an entry or take out a stop. Your results then describe a data artifact instead of your strategy.
Most platforms do not clean their tick data. We remove anomalies before the ticks are ever turned into candles, so what you step through reflects the market you would have been trading.
How far back it goes
Depth is per symbol, not one number for the whole platform.
The oldest forex pairs reach back around 22 years. Other instruments start later, simply because the instrument or its data started later. Crypto is the youngest of the four asset classes we carry.
Coverage inside a symbol's range is not uniform either. Some periods are absent by design, and that is expected rather than a fault. Before you plan a long backtest around a particular symbol, open it in the app and look at what is actually there.
Lowest timeframe: 1 minute
We offer data down to the 1-minute timeframe and deliberately no lower.
Sub-minute data adds noise without adding edge for the large majority of traders. If your approach genuinely depends on sub-minute structure, ChartLabs is not the right tool for it, and we would rather say so than sell you something that does not fit.
